A Hungarian camerawoman who was fired after being filmed kicking refugees intends to sue Facebook and one of the refugees that she tripped.
Petra Laszlo wants to take legal action against the social media site for allegedly refusing to remove groups threatening her while deleting groups that supported her, according to an interview she gave to the Russian newspaper Izvestia.
Laszlo also plans to sue Osama Abdul Mohsen, one of the refugees she kicked. “He changed his testimony, because he initially blamed the police,” Laszlo said. “My husband wants to prove my innocence. For it is now a matter of honor.”
Laszlo hit the headlines in September while working for N1TV at the Hungarian border region of Röszke. She was filming when a group of refugees tried to break through security barriers and started running to escape from police. She was filmed obstructing Mohsen, a Syrian refugee who was carrying a child in his arms.
In December, she faces a criminal trial for causing a breach of peace.
After the incident, Laszlo apologized, saying she was shocked by the public reaction.
“I am not a racist, child-kicking woman,” she said. “I am just a woman, a mother who is now unemployed, who made a bad decision in a panicked situation. I am truly sorry.”
She added that once her criminal trial is over, she might relocate her family to Russia because she feels threatened in Hungary.
